Hair

Let's talk about hair... Whoa, I don't know where to begin. Ok, let me start off by stating that I am fully natural, and I wouldn't have it any other way.  I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY NATURAL HAIR! However, I haven't always been natural, but one thing I know for certain is that I will never put any sort of perm or relaxer in my hair again.

The Transition: As a child, I had waist length wavy hair, but once I received my first perm in middle school, my natural waves vanished.  I permed my hair consistently for about two years, until I decided on my own that perms were truly unneeded for my hair texture. Though I received perms, my hair was still extremely long, reaching just about to my elbow in length, until I got my first cut, which left it a little past my shoulder. Many people handle their transition from relaxed to natural in many different ways.  Some do the big chop and others do protective styles.  For me, it was a bit awkward; it seems as if I have no memorable transition. Weird right? I know. One interesting fact I can remember about my transition is that my perming experience transformed my hair from naturally wavy to curly. So now, my natural hair is curly.

The Styles: I have a strong appreciation for long, medium, and short length hair. With that being said, it explains why I have had a number of hair cuts.  I've had my hair cut more times than I can remember.  My most recent cut was in the fall of 2012, an extremely sophisticated, ear length, angled bob.  Though I loved my short cut, I've decided to grow my hair out.  I don't have a desire length, but my current length is right above my bra strap.

How do you maintain your hair?

Naturally Based Supplements: I've been using my It Works! Hair Skin Nail (HSN) supplements and I love them.  If you are looking to nourish, strengthen, and, grow out your natural hair, I strongly recommend you try these supplements. You can order yours at www.SkinThatGlowz.com

Trim: I get my ends trimmed professionally when necessary.  Personally, I get my trimmings ranging from every 6-10 weeks.  Ladies, I know many of you want to maintain your long hair, but always keep in mind, the health of your hair.  Split ends generally leads to damaged hair.  Hair trimming not only leaves your hair looking and feeling beautiful and voluminous, it also promotes hair growth & overall hair health, or at least for me it does.

Shampoo: Every so often I switch up on my shampoos.  When I wear my hair in heat styles, such as bone straight, I like to use TRESemme's Luxurious Moisture. I'd prefer to use hair products that does not contain sulfates, but this is one I will make an exception for. I really like the way it cleanses my hair.  However, when I wear my hair at it's natural state, I like to use natural, organic, and sulfate free shampoos. My current favorite is Shea Moisture's Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo.

Conditioner: According to how I plan to style my hair determines which conditioner I will use. Either I reach for my TRESemme Luxurious Moisture or Shea Moisture's Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine.

Oils:  I love, love, love my AVEDA light elements smoothing fluid.  It's the only hair oil I use. It's lightweight, and it has such a clean, refreshing scent.

Hair Cocktails: When I have spare time, I like to perform in my hair, what I call a hair cocktail. My personal hair cocktail consist of the following ingredients:

1. Peppermint oil
2. Rosemary oil
3. Coconut oil
4. Castor oil

Each of my oils are 100% pure.  They were purchased at Whole Foods and/or GNC. Sometimes I leave the hair cocktail in for an hour, or sometimes I leave it in over night, and wash it out the next morning.
